|Dr. Agrawal is serving as the Ohio Board of Regents Distinguished Professor in School of Computing Sciences and Informatics (ECECS till summer 2006, CS till June 2010), University of Cincinnati, OH. He was a Visiting Professor of ECE at the Carnegie Mellon University, on sabbatical leave during the autumn 2006 and winter 2007 Quarters. He has been a faculty member at Wayne State University, (1977-1982) and North Carolina State University, (1982-1998). He has been a consultant to the General Dynamics Land Systems Division, Battelle, Inc., and the U. S. Army. He has held visiting appointments at AIRMICS, Atlanta, GA, and the AT&T Advanced Communications Laboratory, Whippany, NJ.|

|Speech Abstract: Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) was established in 2010 by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, a private, non-profit organization that is supporting Qatar’s transformation from a hydrocarbon-based economy to knowledge-based economy.
QCRI fulfills a vital role in building Qatar’s innovation and technology capacity by focusing on large-scale computing challenges that address national priorities for growth and development. As a national research institute, QCRI conducts cutting-edge computing research, much of which is coordinated with Qatari institutions, corporations and government, to enhance the quality of life for citizens, enable broader scientific discovery and make local businesses more competitively globally. In doing this, QCRI performs world-class multidisciplinary computing research in such areas as Arabic language technologies, social computing, data analytics, scientific computing, distributed systems, and will soon launch a center in cyber security research.

Dr. Majd Abbar’s short Bio: Mr. Abbar is a senior scientist at QCRI focused on establishing and driving the Arabic Digital Content enrichment initiative to improve the current state of the Arabic Online content and the user experience of the Arabic Internet users.
Prior to joining QCRI, Mr. Abbar established the Bi-Directional Windows Localization team at Microsoft Corporation and was responsible for the release of multiple international versions of Microsoft Windows as well as the creation of the Emerging Markets team for Windows International. In addition, Majd was responsible for the strategic language planning for the Microsoft Desktop Applications and the overall Windows and Windows Live International’s Outsourcing Strategy.
He received his MBA in MIS from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, BC, Canada and has a BSc in Electrical Engineering from South Dakota State University, USA.

His research is inter-disciplinary and addresses data mining, agent modeling, social networks, evolutionary computation and varied business problems. His work appears in journals like Social Networks, Decision Support Systems, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, INFORMS Journal of Computing, Evolutionary Computation, Decision Sciences and various conferences.|
Dr. Esma Aïmeur

|Esma Aïmeur is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Operations Research at the University of Montreal. She received her Ph.D. Degree from University of Paris 6 in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
She was the head of the Computer Science division of the multidisciplinary Masters Program in Electronic Commerce at the University of Montreal.
She has been working with her team on computer privacy for more than 12 years. She is interested in privacy-enhancing technologies in different settings, such as social networks, electronic commerce and e-learning. She also works on privacy-preserving data mining and the protection of personal data (identity theft, information disclosure, profiling and re-identification).
She has been appointed member of the Data Protection Advisory Committee of University of Montreal. Her responsibilities are to help improve policies and decision making in security awareness by providing best practices to protect personal data.
Dr. Ernesto Damiani
Full professor at the Università degli Studi di Milano from 2002 and the director of the Università degli Studi di Milano’s PhD program in computer science from 2008.
|Speech Abstract: Generating and handling assurance information on the cloud is an open challenge, as conflicting requirements (e.g., transparency vs. privacy) are emerging. In this talk, we move the first steps towards a conceptual framework where the specifications of basic, hybrid and incremental assurance, service-level agreement (SLA) and certification models for cloud-based services can be given. Specifically, we focus on the definition of a unifying meta-model to provide representational guidelines for (i) the definition of the properties to be negotiated and certified on the cloud (ii) the types of evidence underlying them (iii) the phases of the artifacts life cycle, as well as of all mechanisms for generating supporting evidence.
Dr. Ernesto Damiani’s short Bio: Ernesto Damiani’s areas of interest include Cloud and Web services security, processing of semi and unstructured information, and semantics-aware content engineering for multimedia. He has published several books and about 200 papers and international patents. His work has appeared, among many others, in the IEEE Trans. on Knowledge and Data Engineering, the ACM Trans. on Information and System Security, and IEEE Trans. on Fuzzy Systems as well as in the ACM Trans. on Information Systems and the ACM Trans. on Software Engineering and Methodology.
